A FEW WORDS ABOUT OUR PEOPLE

Spilios Fassois

Spilios was born in South Africa where he graduated with an LLB from the University of Cape Town. He obtained his LLM from UCL (University College London) with a mark of distinction. He returned to Greece where he did his articles with the Rediadis Law Firm and qualified for the Greek Bar. He then joined the West of England P&I Club where he worked for 15 years in the Greek office with John Merrylees, rising to the status of Associate. In 1997 he made the move into broking by joining Lowndes Lambert (later Heath Lambert) where after a few years he was appointed Managing Director of their Greek office. In 2004 Spilios founded Faros Marine Services with George Theodossakis. He specialises in all aspects of P&I with a particular accent on P&I claims.

George Theodossakis

George completed his law degree in Greece and obtained his LLM in shipping from the University of Southampton. After his studies, he embarked on a handy sized vessel for half year in order to gain some seagoing experience and served a stint with the head offices of GARD P&I. He was then admitted to the Piraeus Bar in 1998 and is a Member of the Law Society of England and Wales since 2001. George worked for the Shipping Departments of Holman Fenwick & Willan and Richards Butler (now Reed Smith) in the City of London before deciding to return to Greece where he set up Faros together with Spilios Fassois. Apart from his broking duties, as a fully qualified solicitor, George specialises in giving advice to Shipowners on various insurance related matters and renders claims assistance where necessary. George has also successfully attended the Hellenic Institute of  Insurance Studies.

Yiannis Pavlakis

Yiannis graduated from the University of Piraeus with major diplomas in Business Administration and Statistics. He obtained working experience with a major Lloyd’s Broker and he then joined a Greek Marine Insurance Broking firm where he served as a Director for 27 years dealing with all aspects of Marine Insurance. He joined Faros in June 2012.

George Filippidis

George graduated from the University of Wales with a Diploma in Shipping and a MSc in Marine Law and Policy. He then completed the CPE (Common Professional Examinations) course, which could lead to a legal career as a solicitor or barrister in London, but chose to return to Greece and assume a Deputy Manager`s position at Makrimichalos Bros. He then joined Trader Shipping (now Windforce Maritime) as their in house counsel. In parallel with the above, he was a lecturer of Carriage of Goods by Sea and Marine Insurance Law at the Ergo SBA College of Piraeus. George then made the transition into P&I and H&M broking heading two broking houses, Spectrum Marine and Prorisk SA. Since 2009 George is complimenting the Faros team.

Chris Pastelidis

Initially qualifying as an economist – Honours graduate in Economics from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand, Member of the Royal Economic Society, London and of the Economic Chamber of Greece – Chris is a shipping professional with chartered status. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London and former Baltic Exchange Prizeman, he is a Member of the Baltic Exchange, Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London and a Supporting Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators` Association. Joining Faros in 2006 Chris brings more than 30 years experience in acting for vessel and cargo interests, as well as expertise in placing   edge-of-water insurances for a major shipyard in Florida, USA. In addition to native English and Greek he has a working knowledge of French.

George Tsakirakis

George has graduated from the American College of Greece with a bachelor in Accounting and Finance. He then continued his studies in Glasgow where he obtained an Msc in International Banking and Finance. In 2009 he joined Fenchurch Faris in Greece where he worked for 18 months as an Assistant Reinsurance Broker in various fields of insurance such as Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Engineering. He continued his career in insurance by joining Aigaion Marine Insurance in 2011 as an Assistant Marine Underwriter dealing with P&I and War Covers. George is a qualified member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS). From May 2012 he has become a member of the Faros team.

Theodora Papacostas

Theodora Papacostas is a South African born Greek who emigrated to Greece in April of 2004.  In South Africa she worked at a Law Firm as a collections typist in the debt collecting department.  In March of 1996 the partnership dissolved and she assisted one of the Partners in setting up his own Law Firm where she became Personal Assistant to the Senior Partner and was Office Manager.  She joined Faros in 2004 where she is responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the office, accounting matters and any arrangements that are required for the issue of Certificates of Financial Responsibility (COFRS) for vessels trading to the States.

Sinead Barrett

Sinead Barrett is an Irish citizen who moved to Greece in 2001. She was previously employed at a Shipping Company as assistant in the operations department and joined Faros in March 2007. She assists in all administration duties and checking of documentation. Additionally, she also deals with the placing of Kidnap and Ransom insurance.

Lilian Epitropou

Graduated from the American College of Greece with a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business. She had 6 years prior experience at a Greek Marine Insurance broking firm as a Broker Assistant. In addition to her native Greek Lilian is also fluent in English, Spanish and French. She joined Faros in May 2012 as an account handler executive.

Xenia Georgakopoulou

Xenia has graduated from the University of Piraeus, Maritime Department. In 2009 she did her internship at the Shipping Company Athenian Sea Carriers L.T.D., in the Crew Department. From 2012 to 2013 she was employed at Naias Labs S.A. She joined the Faros team in March 2014, where she assists in all administration duties.
